9 Vegan Snacks You Didn't Know Were Vegan

SHARE THIS WITH FRIENDS:

Up to 60% of people are considering a more plant-based diet. If you're trying to start choosing more plant-based options, we applaud you!

Going vegan is good for your health and the environment, but finding tasty vegan snacks at your local grocery store can make it frustrating. This is because official "vegan" foods are hard to find and expensive!

We're here with a few accidentally vegan snacks you can find at most grocery stores. Read on to learn more.

1. Swedish Fish

Do you miss gummy candy? While the texture is slightly different, these sweet fish-shaped candies are a fantastic replacement. There's no gelatin so you don't have to worry.

2. Oreos

You don't have to give up America's favorite cookie when you give up animal products. Oreos are technically vegan (unless you avoid palm oil).

3. Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos

Most Doritos are far from vegan due to their cheesy powder. Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos, however, are safe for vegans (and delicious).

Bonus: the Doritos toasted corn tortilla chips are also vegan, and they'd go great with plant-based mango salsa!

4. CLIF Bars

Do you need a protein pick-me-up in the middle of the day? Most CLIF Bar flavors are vegan (aside from the peanut butter and honey flavors, at least at this time).

5. Purely Elizabeth Granola

While one would generally think of granola as vegan by default, this isn't always the case. Some brands use milk powder in their granola flavorings.

Purely Elizabeth granola, however, is safe for vegans. Pair it with dairy-free yogurt for a healthy snack.

6. Jello-O Instant Pudding Mix

All vegans and vegetarians know that Jell-O is out due to its gelatin. Not all Jell-O products have gelatin, however.

Jell-O instant pudding mix isn't cooked, so there's no gelatin to set. Look online for modifications for making it with plant-based milk

7. Nature's Bakery Fig Bars

These tasty bars are reminiscent of old-school Fig Newtons, but they have more nutrition packed in. With real figs and fiber, they make a great healthy afternoon snack.

8. Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

There's nothing like carbs to make you feel warm and cozy. This may be surprising, but Pillsbury Crescent Rolls are actually safe for vegans!

The crust may be buttery, but there's no real butter involved.

9. Alpha Foods

Our Alpha Foods products might not be "accidentally" vegan (after all, we made them that way!), but they may surprise some meat eaters.

You can include our products in tasty snacks like gyoza, nachos, and more, without sacrificing taste. Serve them to your vegan and non-vegan friends alike.

We have tasty nuggets that would surprise meat lovers (and they're kid-approved). We have vegan breakfast sandwiches for when you're in a rush in the morning. We even have filling vegan burritos that you can grab while you're on the go!

Alpha Foods products are filling and nutritious. You'll get enough protein to keep you full until your next meal.

Prep: 15 minutes | Serves 4 INGREDIENTS Chik'n Filling 1 package (about 12 oz) Alpha Foods Homestyle Chik'n Strips 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 teaspoon chili powder 1/2 teaspoon cumin 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika Salt and pepper to taste Juice of 1 lime Other 8 small corn tortillas 1 cup vegan cheese (your choice, but cheddar-style works well) 1 cup pico de gallo (store-bought or homemade) 1/2 cup vegan sour cream 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro 2-3 jalapenos, thinly sliced (adjust to your spice preference) DIRECTIONS Cook the Chik'n: In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the Alpha Foods Homestyle Chik'n Strips and season them with 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the chik'n strips turn golden brown, and then squeeze the juice of 1 lime over them. Warm the Tortillas: Briefly heat the small corn tortillas either in the microwave or on a skillet until they are warm and pliable. Assemble the Tacos: Place a portion of the cooked chik'n strips on each tortilla, followed by a sprinkle of vegan cheese, a spoonful of pico de gallo, and some thinly sliced jalapenos. Add Toppings: Drizzle vegan sour cream over the top and sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro for extra flavor. This chicken-free meal doesn’t cluck around. Enjoy!
