Plant-Based Chicken: A Look at Its Ingredients and Health Benefits

The plant-based movement, which promotes plant-based alternatives to animal products, grew three times faster than total food sales in 2021. Plant-based alternatives to meat, including vegan chicken, are becoming more widely available in stores.

Plant-Based Chicken: A Delicious and Healthy Way to Get Your Protein

Although components vary, certain materials are commonly used in meat and meat-free chicken products. These include water, wheat flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and other spices. The main difference is that plant-based chicken is usually made from soy protein and wheat gluten instead of animal flesh. While the soy and wheat protein content (12g per 85g serve) in our nuggets is the same amount provided by several popular brands made from chicken meat, many customers say our Chik'n products are more delicious than regular chicken.

Plant-based chicken products like Alpha's Chik'n Nuggets will commonly contain fewer calories, less sodium, less saturated fat, and less total fat than meat-based equivalents. Importantly, our Chik'n products contain no cholesterol, but they all contain desirable potassium, iron, and calcium.

Choosing plant-based chicken products does not mean sacrificing taste, convenience, or nutritional value.

A Humane Alternative to Factory-Farmed Chicken

Nine billion chickens, more than the world's human population, are killed yearly to feed the US population alone. They are slaughtered at around 47 days old, after living between 1 and 2 percent of their natural lifespan. In their brief lifetime, they experience no joy and considerable suffering.

No chicken should need to suffer when equally tasty, more nutritious food is available, with new alternatives to meat-based products entering the market regularly.

Introducing the Innovative High Moisture Extrusion (HME) Technology

Alpha Foods is constantly innovating to bring plant-based chicken products that are as close as possible to the taste and texture of traditional chicken. The company's latest innovation, high moisture extrusion (HME), produces plant-based chik'n with a texture like shredded chicken.

HME technology has several benefits, including the ability to replicate the textures of various types of meat, increase the nutrient density of the final product, and create custom formats and flavors. It is also a highly flexible food platform capable of creating a wide range of plant-based chicken products.

In addition, HME technology allows Alpha Foods to create plant-based chicken products that serve as an excellent source of protein and a versatile ingredient for use in a wide range of dishes. As plant-based alternatives become increasingly popular, companies like Alpha Foods are using innovative techniques like HME to create plant-based chicken products that are sustainable, healthy, and satisfying.

Add the Alpha Foods Homestyle Chik'n Strips and season them with 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the chik'n strips turn golden brown, and then squeeze the juice of 1 lime over them. Warm the Tortillas: Briefly heat the small corn tortillas either in the microwave or on a skillet until they are warm and pliable. Assemble the Tacos: Place a portion of the cooked chik'n strips on each tortilla, followed by a sprinkle of vegan cheese, a spoonful of pico de gallo, and some thinly sliced jalapenos. Add Toppings: Drizzle vegan sour cream over the top and sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro for extra flavor. This chicken-free meal doesn’t cluck around. Enjoy!
